With or without stolen music, Led Zeppelin will always be a classic band and all their works, classic albums.

@KrazyKris Only if you could elaborate on that a bit more

Probably a personal thing only. I don't like the blues vibe of this too much, all of the blues tracks are at the lower end for me. Compared to LZ II this feels more like a Page show with, for me, too many stretched out solos and stuff like that. Even Dazed And Confused is a bit too focused on him, even if some parts of it are brilliant.
So I guess II is a bit more a band at work. It's just more balanced, more straight-forward and on the whole more consistent. Also the heavier tone appeals to me more.
Still, Babe I'm Gonna Leave You is the best thing the whole trilogy has to offer, just perfect in every way.

I get your point, mate, but the 'consistent' argument falls flat when you have an obvious 5-minute filler like Moby Dick in there. Plus, I don't really feel Page overshadowing the others here; 'dazed', 'you shook me', 'babe' and 'times', to mention a few, cannot be considered a 'Page show', imo. Anyway, glad you read my review and shared your valuable opinion, man, cheers ;)

doctorjimmy, I agree with KrazyKris.
This is a very oriented blues album and personally I don't like blues too much. So, I prefer Led Zeppeli IV, Houses Of The Holy and Led Zeppelin II, to this one.
For me the best tracks one the album are "Dazed And Confused", "Babe I'm Gonna Leave You" and "How Many More Times".

Actually I like Moby Dick. Don't know, it's a nice touch, even if it's far from a high point for Bonham. I even prefer it to Black Mountain Side, though that one's cool too.
And yeah, especially Babe is definitely an exceptions to Page dominating this, D&F not so much, though Bonham does a really good job on it too. With the other two though, can't really say those are anyone's show, they just drag along for me.

Moby Dick sure ain't filler bud. It's better live, but it's a good example on how much better Bonham's groove became on Led Zeppelin 2. The riffs are more memorable, Mr. Jone's bass tone was better, and Plant's vocals didn't sound as "obnoxious."

''Moby Dick sure ain't filler bud. It's better live.''
Nah. During shows it was used as a break for the rest of the members and a chance for everyone to go to the bathroom. Not my words, but from people who actually were there. You should visit the official LZ forum sometimes ;)
''The riffs are more memorable''
Yeah, but the debut didn't have as many riffs to begin with. Plus, can you really go wrong in catchiness with CB or HMMT?
''Plant's vocals didn't sound as "obnoxious''''
Then what Thank You is doing there?

This is a great debut by a classic band. However, I don't agree with all you said. Anyway, you did a good review. Have a pos.
