Yet another astounding record. The atmosphere on this is magical. I love it so much.

I think this was my least favorite of the Anneke albums, that's why i haven't it rated, can't remember anything about it.

It took a few listens to warm up on me. It definitely isn't as immediately flooring.

Agreed, this is the outlier of the Anneke years and it has the potential to be unappealing for sure. To me they hit just the right balance between poppy and weirdness, totally love it. Very quiet and diverse too.
Luc you are awesome. All those high ratings yesssss.

This has that distortion heavy slowcore/shoegaze sound that I fall for every time. "A Noise Severe" was when this clicked and everything fell into place after. It's a beautiful close to the Anneke era.

What does it mean Asdfp? I've always wondered that but never bothered to check.
Nice detail: you hear the beat being counted at the start, in Dutch, "een, twee, drie, vier".
And there's Swedish too right? Such a weird track, I've always felt it doesn't really fit on here but it also brings a nice flavour to the record.

This could very well become my favourite Gathering record. I really don't know haha. This, Sourvenirs, and Planet are so close to each other in terms of quality.

Luc you're so right in picking the highlights in their discog. Planet will be my fave forever but Home and Especially Souvenirs are mighty close.
This is one great blend of pop, rock and something entirely their own so I won't blame you in picking this as your fave. A fantastic record, wonderfully produced, diverse, takes its time. Oh and Anneke of course.

This is an excellent review. I've been a fan of Anneke ever since hearing DTP's 'Addicted', but in the decade since, I only ever checked out 'How To Measure A Planet'...which honestly probably wasn't the best starting place, hahaha. I think I'll try 'if_then_else' or 'Nighttime Birds' next.
That being said...Ulver would like a word on that whole "band that changed the most' crown.

Planet is a good starting point in some ways imo, but damn some parts of that album are evasive. If_Then_Else is an probs the most representative TG album, I'd definitely recommend that

Right from the start, the album looked and sounded like an end to an era, no wonder why Anneke left shortly after.
It's a good album though.

Yeah but she left to do more in this vein in the years directly after, of course with other people and in other contexts, but it still sounded very much like Home did I think. It's not like she went for a totally different direction right away when she went 'solo'.
