TWFU sounds way more mature and has better overall written songs. Sure Currents is more technical, but it doesn't make it better. Plus the lyrics are way better on here.

I can hear this maturity you speak of in certain songs, but I really don't think it's prevalent through the album. Songs like Burn, Tragedy and Collapse display that in my mind, maybe even the last track, but the others I don't really see it. The lyrics thing I could potentially agree with you because I believe Brendan Murphy is just consistently getting better in his songwriting ability. However, it's not like Current's lyrics are bad by any stretch. I'm still pushed to chills when Murphy screams "I fuckin' hate the world; I fuckin' hate myself; I swore I'd never fucking feel like this." And not to mention the last track, Reflection. Probably one of the most mature song's they've ever written, and lyrically shows Murphy at the top of his game.

I gotta be honest. I miss the technicality they wove into their songs. It has been a significant part of the band's identity for the last three albums, to the point where it makes the first four tracks of TWFU somewhat dull in comparison. I believe that's half the reason people were so turned on to this band in the first place. They could infuse their technical prowess to combine the darker/heavier parts of the songs with the more melodic aspects.

Hey, JMH. You aren't good. That's some heartfelt shit that Murphy's screaming out to the world, man. Those lyrics specifically aren't metaphorical or groundbreaking in any right, but they are honest beyond measure and delivered at an epic peak within the song, hence the chills, and why they're completely validated.

i mean it's not his best line but usually its the delivery that makes his lyrics, and most bands in the genre, effective

Exactly. He's definitely got some killer lines in this new album tho, for sure.

We're beating JMH if he brings any more "those aren't even good" attitude.

I agree, he's a pretty funny guy. His response to questions on tumblr also tend to crack me up. If you watch interviews though you can tell he's extremely pessimistic naturally. And in response to what you said above, the vocal delivery and the tone of the record alone sounds a lot more mature in about every song except for Choke imo. Their technicality did help separate them from other bands. However, I feel like Brendon has always been what defines this band. Don't get me wrong I love Currents, I just don't think it's as good as TDBHAH or this.

Yeah, thats all well and good, but I have a really hard time saying this is a better album solely based on the points that it's subjectively "more mature" in vocal delivery and tone.

It very well may be more mature, but that doesn't necessarily make it better in my mind.

aight aight i aint tryin to be a hater. your second argument for those lyrics is way better than the first. i feel like you probably could've found a better line to reference his good lyrics with. but anyways, passion does trump all like you said. that's why i love hardcore. i like this band anyway. i'm just a smartass.
