I hope he does more highs than the other dude does. This blackened deathcore needs more black metal in it.

When I heard CJ was joining I was skeptical because I felt his highs were lacking but a 15 second teaser convinced me he's the man for the job lol. Im so ready for that single

hard agree with you nocturtle, hes going to fit in super well. SOTS new vocalist looks good too.
Tom on the other hand....wowee

You felt CJ's highs were lacking? Man, i thought they were absolutely putrid on that SOTS album. Their new vocalist is beast. Not on CJ's level, but close enough. Tom's a decent growler but his highs straight up blow.

@Adolf I dig sots bigtime but his highs sounded wack to me like they were literally the only part of swarms i didn't like lol
@Ninja Toms a sellout bitch imo he left a great band for a dying cover band
End of the day I'm stoked for Lorna and Signs and coulnt care less about CG

seriously though, the only reason im sure he left was for the Rise Records™ cash, pisses me off. All he did was poorly cover already written material, used to think he was such a chill dude

Its sad for me because I was a big fan of his but now he's just a joke to me tbh
It all worked out for the best though CJ is gonna take these boys to the next level

"I dig sots bigtime but his highs sounded wack to me"
damn dude, i love them.

so why do Tom's highs sound so much better with Chelsea Grin?...was it just a stylistic choice or did he just figure out how to do them properly?
edit: watching live videos of Lorna Shore, Tom's high screams definitely sound way better than on the records...what the hell.

Hmmm. I feel like maybe CJ isnt the best fit. I think he does better with more brutal music that he can get crazy with.

Darkest Spawn is a pretty sweet song. Still not a fan of CJ compared to Tom, his style and layering is not my cup of tea for Lorna. He's a beast at what he does though.

if I look at Lorna Shore as the huge fan of Flesh Coffin like I am, then I am of major disapoint
but if I look at Lorna as someone who absolutely loves the combination of Blackened Slam with heavy, eerie atmosphere with CJ fucking Mcreery on vocals
Then I'm actually kinda hype

Tom's vocals were a stylistic choice on this album. I personally prefer his performance on Lorna Shore and think it outweighs the effort on Chelsea Grin, but that's my personal preference.
The tone he hits with his highs match the blackened sound from LS, where as Chelsea Grin, Tom's just going all out with as much of a hard hitting scream yell attack as possible.
I'm actually generally put off with a lot of modern deathcore's push towards using as many parts of your throat as possible in every single scream, and then obtusely quad layering that to sound "heavy". Like bro, it doesn't need to be on full blast constantly, you can give emphasis to different parts by blending different styles and intensity. Even a band like SotS that is trying to be as insanely heavy as possible can benefit from vocal dynamics. Dig the new SotS tracks though.

Kinda blew this band off after not liking this album, but I checked Flesh Coffin on a whim tonight and it's quite a solid improvement from this. I hope they don't end up not releasing their new album just because they kicked CJ out.
