I think it’s insanely underrated and by far their best since Black Holes. Not that that would be much of a difficult feat but this has some amazing tracks on it.

My issue with this album is simple. It’s forced.



I don’t mind Drones, but it so blatantly encompasses an attitude of “oh, you want rock riffs? Here’s fucking Psycho you dick, we’ve played this riff live for years we know you like it. Oh, you like solos? Well Reapers has the biggest we’ve ever done, so there you go.”



The album is fine, but it’s clearly not what they wanted to make.

Yeah, it does have that air about it, I’ll agree with you there. But it’s executed really well and has some of my favorite Muse songs (also has a few absolutely terrible ones like Revolt and Aftermath).

Feels to me like a "best of both worlds" album for them, in that it successfully infuses their post-Black Holes material with an approach reminiscent of Origin
