But the summary...

If they sacrificed some melodic identity for their album then why do you later say "outfits it with a largely new sound focused on melody and beauty"

You mention this a lot and the summary says the opposite :/

Yeah the summary needs to be fixed. They didn't sacrifice melody. They actually sacrificed some technicality and opted for more melody so they could be built around the clean vocals being implemented. I mean, this album is still proggy but just not as proggy as their previous efforts. Still, I don't mind that. I just wish they didn't lean towards chugs and tried to keep the crazy sick riffage. Ah well.

I changed the summary a bit. But think about what "melodic identify" means. It means the melodies of the riffs they used to play. Its still here, but they sacrifice some of it in favor of this new Periphery-sounding stuff. Thats the key word - "melodic identity". Veil of Maya have always been a fairly melodic band, but they dont sound like themselves sometimes here

But I see how it could be legitimately confusing. I wrote that summary as a replacement for the first in about 10 seconds soit needed cleaning up

I definitely prefer old VoM, but this isn't bad. This guy has some pretty cool riffs, but has trouble building a song. Also some of the cleans and post production are lame, but overall it's a fun headbang.

Why is anyone surprised by the cover art? They haven't had a good album cover yet.
