Agreed with JWT. I feel like there's a lot of great foundations for songs, but given more time or more creative direction they could have been so much more.

Yep, I feel like an extra few weeks in the studio could have fleshed out a lot more on this record.

this was pretty terrible.

"The only unbearable moment on the album comes on “Until We Can’t” where Angelakos delivers an atrociously ham-fisted “Let’s Go!” in the chorus with some stadium-quality synths blaring behind him."
I just learned that Hans Zimmer is credited as co-composer on that song. Would explain the tune's over-the-top, bombastic qualities quite a bit, I think.

Interesting.

holy fuck the guy in the band's DP looks exactly like shea weber

Someone asked him about that, he just sampled something Zimmer had done for a movie is all.
I actually really enjoy Until We Can't. Production's great. Lyrics are basically Matt & Kim, which I have no problem with.

can't get over that horrible cover

Got past the cover and gave this a listen...makes Empire of the Sun sound like friggin' world beaters!

So, now I think I almost want to avoid this entirely because of how much you all seem to hate it. Gossamer was one of my favorites in 2012 and I can't stand the thought of hearing a terrible Passion Pit album.

At least listen to the singles before you write it off.

these guys have always sucked

Gossamer had maybe two songs that didn't wear out after the first listen. I thought that album was pretty terrible. Passion Pit is great for singles but I don't think there's a reason for anyone to ever listen to one of their full-length albums.
I feel acts like this sound best in a playlist, mixed in with other artists. I don't understand why certain artists release full-length albums once every 2-3 years when they could release a great single once every few months. It's not like the average consumer of mainstream music buys albums anyways. Is the album cycle just used to justify a lucrative tour?

@tomakaveto it's not that bad. it's not as good as Gossamer but if you loved Gossamer I would be really surprised if you didn't at least _like_ Kindred.
@everythingandless I get what you're saying about the album thing (some artists do singles way better than albums) but in this case I def. disagree about Passion Pit. Gossamer is a very solid album (not just as a collection of singles) to a lot of people (including me). I see it as far more than the sum of it's parts

I'm almost ashamed to admit this, but I'm starting to like this album.

Thanks Irv!
I get what you're saying EverythingandLess, I just don't necessarily agree that Passion Pit is a band that deserves to be pigeonholed into the "singles only" model, especially since the lyrical content behind Gossamer was so compelling.

I definitely don't see passion pit as a singles band, i thought gossamer and manners were a fantastic listen all the way through
This however has a few stinkers, one of them is a single though, so i still don't think they are a singles band
