As a side note I get the hate for Lambs' Breath but how does anyone not like 'Asunder Sweet' (the second drone track)? It's absolutely spellbinding.

Klap I thought you did listen to this
Let me know what you think when you do, it's definitely not their best album but I personally prefer it to Allelujah and Yanqui.

i can't help but wonder if this would be well received if it were by some other band. it seems like godspeed can do no wrong here, but i mean, come on... this is some of the most uneventful drone/post-rock i've heard in a long time. although we shouldn't necessarily expect a certain standard from a band (especially when the bar has been set so high previously), but this album is especially nondescript

I'd still like this under any other band name. It helps to have a body of work to compare it to, because to me it all runs together like one big story, but even dismissing that factor this is still an impressive body of work. People dislike the drone tracks which is understandable, but they grew on me thus eliminating what many people perceive to be the "boring half."

| |
i don't mean to accuse you of being insincere or anything, it just seems that godspeed can't release a single album without people praising it. i love drone music, but this is just so bland to me. they don't do anything eventful or anything. i think of some of the most epic moments in drone music (like earthmover), and this just doesn't stack up. even the first track, which is surprisingly one of the better ones, features some of the blandest guitar work i've ever heard - not just from godspeed, but in general. idk, i just don't get it.

yanqui is the only godspeed i dont dig. i dont know if i prefer this to Allelujah but I do know I like it.

i will concede that the last song is pretty good, but the middle section of the album is just a pregnant pause. it's just kind of... there. no climax, no interesting or beautiful music, just intense boredom

I like when there's an evolution in a band's sound, but it would've been better if they kept creating Infinity 2, 3, 4, etc... than changing their sound to this

This review was so good. Good job man. Enjoying this as well.

album title was a bad omen

i have to agree with mrsirlordgentleman (nice name). now they sound (to me) the same as the legion of other mediocre post-rockers out there, whereas before they had this indelible mark in the genre, making music that was aesthetically different than anything else at the time. their sound didn't always sound the same either, but still it was fresh (bbf3 is sort of dark, whereas some of the songs on lift your... were sort of of bright and bubbly (sometimes)). if any band had released this, i would never find myself saying 'whoa, this sounds a lot like godspeed'. i feel they've lost their identity and that aesthetic force that defined their earlier albums.
