tbt... No.
Devlin, he isn't overrated as an artist, but this heap is. Even this jumble of shit doesn't de-value him for me though. He'll get back to himself soon or he'll push this TPAB crap straight at us until he retires in 20 years.

Nah, Kendrick doesn't seem like the kinda dude to linger too long on one sound. I mean, all three of his albums sound vastly different. I think he'll move on from jazz and the formula he has here

Sorry every time I hear his vocals I cringe. I tried several times to get into his stuff I just can't I hate his delivery, and the sound of his vocals.

So, his dick will be for free like the rest of us? Nice. I feel better already.

I just feel like so many critics jumped on this record and called it the best for hip hop this decade solely because it's not as... What's the word? can't really think of the right word, but it feels a lot safer than a lot of "black heavy" political hip hop records lyrically, while production is A+

I more or less view this and GKMC as KDot's whole bragadocious thing about being king of both coasts; GKMC was heavily influenced by old school west coast hip hop and TPAB is heavily influenced by the jazz era of east coast hip hop with some obvious boom bap here and there
And CL0V you're looking for "Black Lives Matter"

Maybe it's conviction? I just don't think Kendrick really can sell the image he's trying to push through this record about politics and race relations an what not because his songwriting just doesn't have that strength to make it look like he has the conviction to be the poster child critics are trying to make him be.
This was also prevelant on GKMC, but there Kendrick ha the fact that the album was a blockbuster concept to lean on as compensation for his direct and simplistic lyricism, which helped that record. But here, its just really painful and kinda just makes what he's saying look like dressed up small talk without the conviction to REALLY buy what he's saying.

I never thought KDot was doing any preaching of some extent about politics/racial issues in the US. The album just tells a story about how the sudden fame brought on by the success of GKMC changed his life and how he's trying to remain a role model for the broken youth while feeling dirty about it due to demons he was unable to exorcise until the creation of this album. Obviously the racial stuff like The Blacker the Berry and Alright exist but they're there to underline points being made by the unraveling poem he's reciting to 2Pac.
