@guzzo because the other reviews for this sound like they were written after the first listen, and giving something a 5 on first listen doesn't really make sense to me

Yeah, I don't like doing first impression reviews. I really thought you were going to enjoy this more than GKMC, like I was figuring you would rate it like a 3.5 haha

I've listened to it only twice. I can tell a lot of effort was put into this but it sounds kind of sterile to me. I'm also not huge on me the lyrics, seems like Lamar is up to his regular shtick but with less political motivation this time.

Have you heard the album? This is clearly his most political motivated album easy. Not lupe level but more than anything I've heard from him.

I'm still mad the song he did on the Colbert report didn't make the album. I wonder if it was recorded or iust a live song.

Thinking of live songs, I love how he made the live version of "I" on the album. Much better than the single version.

Just becase it's his most overtly political album doesn't mean it's making worthwhile statements. I haven't analysed it deeply enough yet to say he's necessarily pulling from the same pool of ideas he has before, but a lot of it seems extraneous, angry for the sake of it, political for the sake of it. I don't know how to properly level such a criticism without people on Sputnik raging at me though
