The Ground Walks is pretty much The View redux.

A lot of songs on here are retreads. I like Lampshades a lot, but I can't believe more people aren't talking about how the cornerstone ba ba ba's are sung in the exact same tone, same inflection and order, as The World At Large.

Lampshades is alright, but I agree with that Sowing. I kinda noticed it too.

I think they were going for that with that one though haha

Oh definitely, kinda sounds like a Christmas carol (the ba ba ba's), or maybe that's just me.

Honestly, I'm just happy to hear a new collection of songs from MM. It's pretty funny that the singles on this album have come closer to trumping the other tracks more than on any other album they've released. This is Modest Mouse for the people. A starting point into their exciting world of indie rock!

Yeah I totally get being happy just to have new MM. And it's a good album, I have been listening to it a decent amount lately. Just not up to the standard of anything they did on or before The Moon & Antarctica. We Were Dead...was the closest they came to getting on that same level but even in doing so they kind of went all out accessible.

Yea I really don't think they could make a song that bad, it really seems self aware.

treading the line between brilliant and ridiculous haphazardly

a nice hottake re:p4k review from reddit:
"modest mouse has been around for like a while during which time this album was not around. but now this album, which was previously not around, is now around. now, after 2830 days of waiting, it feels more like we could have only waited 750 days, because this album doesn't go in any new directions, but i'm mad that they don't sound like classic modest mouse. in lampshades on fire, their music sounds familiar. suspicious. on ansel, it's different. suspect.
cowboys, sounding a lot like the beatles because they also had a few songs with acoustic guitars, has stupid lyrics. 'cowboys tiptoe in the snow after cowboys?' like what? where's isaac brock? who am i
the best room, a raucous techno hit, might have been about a ufo sighting according to the title of an article that i read on google. whatever it's some really great hard rock metal pop, and really really awesome also too. never mind awkward*
within the first eighteen seconds of sugar boats, i was annoyed and had already formed my preconceptions. same with pistol, which is definitely bar none the worst song that isaac brock has ever written. i mean, i dont even get it where am i
i feel like i listened to this album once until someone told me to start publishing my opinions. this album is modest mouse cementing themselves as something or whatever and this rating is less than what i gave chief keef and lupe fiasco because whatever fuck you i'm a goddamn professional"
