then u missed the comments where there were people saying it was a classic
I think the comment I quoted was the only one... I didn't call it a classic and I didn't see anyone else who did.

Actually if you're including the other thread I'm sure there were a couple more... that one's too much of a clusterfuck for me to sift through just to find the "classic" comments.

how much time after hearing an album is the cutoff point before you can call it a classic
|
| |
at least a year of continuous listening while reading multiple hundreds of reviews and interviews with the artist

If the music makes you go "whoa" a minimum of two times, it's a classic

Album Rating: 3.5
unless you're on pot not in under a few listens

once its actually proved it is significantly influential obvs.
|

agreed, but even that is arbitrary

its a hell of a lot less arbitrary then not systematically allowing it the time to show its value in influence
|
| |
seriously though who give a care about influence
if i enjoy this more than anything else in the world i give it a 5 and you're not gonna tell me i can't
|

Arbitrary is exactly the right word for it. Too many people attach significance to ratings, and labour under the misconception that "classic" equates to "perfect." What does its age really have to do with anything? (That's a rhetorical question; I get that if it still sounds as good 10 years later then it's a true "classic" in that it stood the test of time)

Oh my, I say one thing about it being a "modern classic" and everyone loses their goddamn minds.
Let me clarify/rephrase my statement, once and for all.
This album, in my opinion, is of enough quality to certainly be a "modern classic". In due time, I am sure that it will be, without question. Of course, to truly become a widely considered "classic" though, it must be given its due time to sink in.
However, in my opinion, it deserves to be a modern classic.

you missed the point entirely then
@gyro rating albums in general is completely arbitrary. i dont believe 5/5=classic, a classic album doesnt fit on an arbitrary rating scheme. its just classic because it is timeless and massively influential. i have shit tonnes of 5/5's that i dont think are 'classic'

So he sampled Sufjan too, which is funny because they both have the highest rated albums of the year at the moment.
