JohhnyOnTheSpot:
"pulchritudinous elegance" - this is redundant. you might as well be saying "elegant elegance" or "lovely prettiness"
I think I've read somewhere that writing a tautology - pointless repetition, e.g. forward planning - should be avoided because it makes a sentence wordy and clumsy (wth would 'backward planning' be?). However, imo 'pulchritudinous elegance' doesn't entirely qualify as a tautology because all kinds of elegance exist - 'A Natural Disaster' by Anathema is really miserable and simultaneously elegant, and I occasionally come across music that's downright wretched, yet kinda graceful. Hence, 'pulchritudinous' is a somewhat useful clarification, at least when the review is aboot Beethoven.

thats very interesting and helpful, cheers. are you an english major perchance?

@silvius - interesting angle, thanks for that. I still feel parts of the review were redundant (though maybe it's been edited since) but maybe I was wrong there :/ cheers
|
| |
that being said, I've always considered 'elegant' to be a strictly pleasurable term, and IMO something can't be both 'wretched' and 'elegant' but again, I could be wrong. I'll check those vids too; could be helpful

@Silvius that's nice, thanks for the links. He's a bit nervous, no?

I love how glenj had some really good points but no-one really cared. Oh you, sput

@Insurrection - Nah, I just listen to a lot of stuff like this because virtually all of the cultural output in my native languages sucks hard. And writing well is quite useful.

We haven't read the same review, coz when I read it, 'pulchritudinous elegance' had already been removed ]:

still I don't know what the issue is
|
| |
it's a small issue but it's glaring tbh. it's like saying "Ludwig From himself blah blah". understand? "Van" is Dutch for "from". maybe van Beethoven, but no one says Ludwig Van.

the guy in a clockwork orange says it a ton of times. and ive never heard him referred to as just ludwig. i know grammatically it's incorrect but it makes sense practically i think
|
| |
well the movie character was wrong and idk I never met anyone refer to him as such, it doesn't sound right. it's like saying someone's middle name too.
