This is by far MBD’s best record. Not a single bad track on it, every single verse, chorus, bridge and instrumental break equally catchy. The hooks on this album are indelible, and it should have blown up bigger than it did (not very much, it seems like). I think they finally ditched any need to be two dimensionally aggressive or dissonant to satisfy their “Too punk to admit I like memorable melodies and good production” crowd. They wrote every song from the heart and I can’t even come close to picking a favorite. Don’t know how this got anything but a 5.0.

Album Rating: 4.0
I don't think that, '"too punk to admit I like memorable melodies and good production,”' crowd has ever existed necessarily, considering the cult-like following of the band and their steady growth in popularity- and if they did/do exist, I don't think Adam and Co. have ever cared.
I actually think one of the best parts about this band is that they have never seemed to catered to anyone and have always followed their own specific vision for each album.
