let's be honest lambs, if you were born in 1985 you probably barely remember the tail end of golden age hip hop (it is said to have ended after the mid 90s). are you telling me that 9 year olds were biggest buyers of golden age hip hop albums?

"are you telling me that 9 year olds were biggest buyers of golden age hip hop albums?"
no, but 9 year olds probably bought more albums than sperm cells.
I don't think it's ridiculous to say what Hep Kat said and mock teenagers attempts to convince them Waka Flacka is actually a genius. On the other hand, teenagers could actually learn something about hip hop taste from a thiry year old white dude. An average thirty year old hip hop fan has been listening to hip hop for longer than teenagers have been alive.

older hip hop fans (e.g. 30yos) that just say all new hip hop and/or new hip hop styles suck can step right off though
|
| |
once saw an older hip hop fan on FB saying how all this new hip hop is so misogynistic etc and how the only new hip hop they listen to is Lupe and new Kweli stuff, then talk about how they missed old hip hop like Biggie (misogynistic af) ahaha

It's not even having an issue with misogyny, its having an issue with half an artist's songs bein
about 'bitches' and the other half being about money. There's no doubt today's mainstream hip hop
isn't even close to as lyrical as it once was.
people can listen to scratching of a chalkboard for all i care, I just don't think its accurate to
call mainstream rap 'hip hop' anymore when it's forte has completely changed from lyrics/poetry/raps
to melodies/production.
|
| |
But a lot of old-school hip hop was also very often about 'bitches' and money lol, and old-school purists act like this isn't the case. And I mean it's not like rapping about those subjects is a problem in itself

The beginning and the end of this are amazing but damn does it drag a bit in the middle
|

Kind of agreed but it's still solid enough to enjoy as a whole very easily

BACKGROUND CHECK FOR A CHOPPA YAWK.
and hip-hop is still such a young genre, it's rapidly changing all the time. mainstream hip-hop just capitalizes on "what's hot" in the same way pop does or rock did in the past
|
| |
yeah well i don't think seniority works in this case because they grew up with Diddy instead of Lil Jon or Soulja Boy, really not much of a difference imo. Just because they've been listening to hip hop for longer doesn't necessarily mean they have better taste and aren't the ones praising the recent influx of trap/ drill rappers in hip hop. I think the only reason teenagers here are calling Waka and similar rappers a genius is because they bandwagon on the opinions of white 30 something writers on sites such as Pitchfork who give them glowing praise

does anyone know the significance of the banjo on dots and lines? I just watched Fantano's review and he brings up a pretty good point about that

a majority of the most commercially viable rappers ever since like '88 '89 have kind of sucked
|

i've thrown this on maybe 4-5 times now while cleaning, playing chess, etc., just to listen to it casually. at first a few songs stuck out but i didn't think much of it overall, but now i'm thinking the whole package is pretty damn great. blur my hands and dots and lines are so good, i've had 'em stuck in my head for days

flocka should be making reggaeton
|
| |
now repeat it 100x and you got a flocka song
