This wins by a midges dick. Both are unbelievable though.

I'd take this over Fragile any time. Second disc is bloated and overrated

I love Downward Spiral, but it's just that "A Warm Place" and "Eraser" seem excessive and the album would be better without them. Neither are bad songs, but for an album that already feels too long, those 2 make it feels the longest since they're easily the worst 2.
Still easily a 4.5 though.

I feel like the album benefits from the inclusion of "A Warm Place", it makes for a great interlude and tbh is one of my fav tracks on it
Still, The Fragile>TDS

I do like "A Warm Place" , just not nearly as much as 12 other tracks on here.

A Warm Place is secretly one of the best on here

Year Zero is great too.

Year Zero was the first NiN disc I've ever listened and I wish I hadn't ever listened to it. It took me like 5 years to forget it and be able to enjoy their past discs.
Anyway, why Fragile is better than this? It's full of 'fillers' (especially in the second disc) and there are no standout tracks. This has more peaks of quality and the overall concept is stronger than Fragile's

This and Fragile are both phenomenal, but I'd give this the slight edge because its best songs are better than Fragile's best songs.

The Fragile seemed more complex dynamically and texturally, plus I prefer the more ambient, soundscape-y
route he took over the more metallic, industrial sound this had.
More ambition, diversity, subtlety, and I feel like it was his creative peak. This was about the songs, TF
was about the sounds, I guess

^I agree with what you said completely.

I remember reading an interview with Trent in which he admitted that The Fragile was 'too much' and that he
should have done a Kid A/Amnesiac kind of split.
I'm not saying it's crap (I'd say 3.5) but the rough and direct sound of desperation of the Downward Spiral
hits me more than the moody atmospheric tones of the Fragile. It kinda resonated with me, my life experience
hence why I rate this to be Trent's best.

It gets me every time when people claim Hurt was originally by Johnny Cash.
