i'm pretty sure he likes it. like they would please 85% of their fans by not playing any SHTS songs but they put on a handful of tracks in their sets. at my show (lancaster pa) he said something about being tired, and said it was fitting because insomniatic meat was next.

The problem with Pappas is he doesn't have any imagination as a drummer. Sure, he played the SHTS songs okay, but he didn't write any of those parts-- Marc Allen did.

Yeah, pretty sure Nate likes this too. I know Alex (the guitarist) likes it-- he said in an interview he thinks it's a better album than WIITB.

Too bad Back to Oblivion was kind of a let down.

yeah, i really don't know what i want from these guys now. like something insanely heavy and techy would be amazing but that seems really impossible now.

Woah.
I had no idea anyone loved this album.
I always thought it was decent, but nobody I know that liked Finch back in the day wanted anything to do with this when it came out.

there's a few people that really get it and love it and then it's kinda ignored other than that

Yeah, Back to Oblivion was pretty safe and boring. And dbizzles, it's an album that was incredibly underrated for a long time but it looks as though now people are finally warming to it.

it's a tough album tho. it's got like no human emotion in it. sounds like it was written by a monster or other dimensional demon. so it's really taxing to listen to

I don't find this hard to listen to really. It's still rather catchy even if it's totally left field from WIITB, they just wrote really good hooks in general.

i mean it sounds really good if it's music you throw on, but when you sit down and listen to the whole thing and pay close attention to it, it can be exhausting. incredbile, but exhausting

I almost feel the opposite. This album gives me a ton of energy when I listen to it lol, though that may be because I've listened to it so much.

Out of curiosity, what's your fav track on here BeeRyan?

Agreed about Pappas Lambda, his boring drums on BTO were an obvious low-point. He hits hard and is definitely tight, but he's nowhere as good on a technique level as Marc on SHTS or especially Drew Marcogliese from the Finch EP/World Of Violence demos. Even on the SHTS tribute show you can hear where he had to dumb down/simplify certain sections in songs like Miro, Brother Bleed Brother and Reduced To Teeth. The bassist has claimed Pappas is a world-class drummer in interviews, so I think it's more likely that he's just lazy/efficient and plays only what is necessary for the songs.

Strizz, I got the feeling that he didn't play the second verse of Brother Bleed Brother as intricately as it is on the album.

Anyway Lambda, it's not even that it's not energetic, just kinda is a lot to take in. my favorites... damn, so many. If I had to pick 4.... Hopeless Host, Miro, Insomniatic Meat, and Dreams of Psilocybin. My least favs are Reduced to Teeth, a Man Alone, Ravenous but those are still pretty good songs too.

Your ears aren't deceiving you, instead of doing that cool tom roll/snare beat Marc played, he just keeps the same basic rhythm from verse 1. That's why I said in my review/soundoff for BTO that hiring Pappas back (who was originally kicked out because he was a poor drummer lol) was a big downgrade from his replacements, although he likely leveled up in the interim.

having said that Insomniatic might be my fave
