I'm still amazed by the fact that this band really made a great album, haha.

It came out of absolutely nowhere, and here I was thinking losing Atom would be a negative thing, but Ilan totally revitalised them

Totally, it's a concise, fairly original, catchy as fuck, not that pretencious affair. Almost everything
that the band wasn't on previous releases.

It's not really original but that doesn't bother me when it's done so well
otherwise you've basically summed up the review that I'm currently writing very succinctly :D

I don't precisely find the music original, what I find original is the way the band mixed plenty of different musical influences, wich was one of the main objectives that DeLonge mentioned when he created the band (and was never really able to fully realize until this point, in my opinion). Waiting for that review btw!

Basically to me it sounds like the best of both DeLonge and Rubin's worlds - great synth mixed with Tom's flawless pop sensibilities and none of the wank

Yeah, I can definitely see where you come from. This little chat about the album along with a couple more spins will probably inspire me to write a review for it as well!! That will prove to be quite difficult, because I can't fucking stop listening to The Disease...god, that damned chorus.

cool to see a positive review for this. i really enjoyed the first half of their single "Tunnels", but it seemed to eventually dip into the run-of-the-mill singalongs they've done in the past... still, it showed some great promise, looking forward to hearing the rest

finally read the review and i definitely agree with it, nice job.
still can't believe how much i'm digging this

this can't possibly be that great can it? excuse me, but I'm feeling the slight chills of skeptiosis here.

It's miles ahead of their past releases. It's definitely more sophisticated, wider range in songs and Rubin
definitely leaves a mark on a record that would have otherwise been Delonge's sole brainchild.

Huge blink fan when I was a kid but never bothered with this band because of all the negative things I've heard. You've all convinced me to check this out though! Rubin is the man though.

I agree its a more rounded album, especially compared to love, but I think its lost some of the magic of early AVA (songs such as breathe, the machine, call to arms etc..). The music itself is better and more creative but the lyrics don't seem as powerful and, for me, the lyrics we're the best bit. I didn't mind them squeezing as much use out of riffs and sound effects, in fact iI thought it brought the early albums together nicely. Having said that it is nice to hear them trying something different and this at first listen seems to be a very solid album. Not sure its going to break into the mainstream though, unless its heavily promoted; which I think Tom tried to avoid with the other albums.
