3.7. A very good album with 4 or 5 unnecessary tracks.

The second half of this was all over the place, and I like most of the lyrics but some of them are pretty abysmal. I'm leaning at around a 3.3/3.4 mainly because the first half is so good and the last song is fun.

I was expecting the last song to be as bad as the previous ones. Thankfully, it was quite good. Imaginal cells could have been better, but was okay. The thing is you jam Unto The Locust next and think of what an album it is.

"I guess not, though I remember enjoying reading them more than most heavy metal-themed mags. But it's certainly surprising about The Guardian"
Not really.
The reviewer for the Guardian Dom Lawson, also reviewed Unto The Locust for Metal Hammer and gave it a 10/10, so 5/5 for B&D seems about the same to me.

Unto the Locust is a strong 4/5 maybe a 4.2 or 4.3 for me.

UTL is a 3.8 to 3.9 for me. Better than this but inferior to blackening (4.3) and burn my eyes (4.0)

Am i the only one who doesn't like "Take Me Through the Fire"? It's such a weak follow up to Game Over. I actually deleted it and rearranged the order of the last three songs so it goes "Damage Inside", "Imaginal Cells", "Game Over". Much better listening experience if you like going through albums from start to finish.

Take me through the fire is by far the best part of this albums second half and is probably the main reason I don't have this at a 3.

The band just feels overly complacent. The albums good but extremely uninteresting

That's what I was expecting, I was very skeptical of how this would sound but was pleasantly surprised, especially with songs like Sail into the Black.

I guess but considering that The Blackening was my favorite album of all time when I was around 13 I always had a soft spot for this band. Hell they are still pretty good albeit quite boring. Flynns lyrics on here are like a trainwreck

If the cover they used for the first single was the official release's one, it would have been so much better...http://metalsucks.junipconcepts.netdna-cdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/02/Machine-Head-Killers-Kings-10-Inch.jpg

Yeah, I said so in the review. It's not a bad track, but it just isn't a good closer.

'Ghost Will Haunt My Bones' quickly became one of my favorite tracks after a few listens. That guitar melody will be stuck in my head for weeks now. It really does drip with atmosphere.
