oh, yeah the production is a little weird on it I agree. It's definitely more rough, but I remember reading it was intentional. For me it was one of those things that bothered me on the first listen, but now I can ignore it. It doesn't fall into that list of albums that I find unlistenable due to the production, but yeah I think the songs are a bit better on TDFTNI

Weird muddy production aside, their latest 2 have grown on me a lot despite not liking them much at first.
Lately, I've been starting with The Nightmare of Being and working my way back to this album, it's a really solid trilogy.
