they gotta work cuz even with their successful albums and touring they need to provide and stabilize their livelihoods, all respectable metal bands have real jobs while doin music on the side.

I wouldn't go as far as saying "all" when it comes to anything.
But yeah, the notion of making a living at music is fairly naive unless you work on the technical end (producer/engineer), have a degree and work your ass off and belong to a good union, or are a mainstream artist/band member who makes smart business descisions. You also have to factor in the lack of healthcare and retirement unless a label or union guarantees it, which is probably relatively rare in the US at the least.

As much as I love Meshuggah I never got the crazy hype around I. I like it but I remember it being disjointed and I feel like most of their studio albums blow it out of the water. I'll have to listen to this again and see if my feelings have changed

"can't believe people still care about this band didn't le djentlesir culture die already?"
fuck that meshuggah transcends that shitty tag

I've never had an issue with the original release's production. It was relatively easy to find a physical copy of as well. Good review, but I probably won't bother with it.

My Meshuggah "I" shirt is my most treasured band shirt.
Still don't care for a remaster, though.

all they did was make the first part louder so when it kicks in at like 2 mins it has less of an impact wow great remaster guyz

Weren't those tracks on the pitch black ep? This is probably the best thing the band has made but I don't think I'll be listening to the remaster. Is there any blatant improvements?

fan, can anyone who knows about sound mixing/quality tell me if this is remaster is really worth spending money on if I already have Pitch Black and I?
All depends on how you like the original sound of a record. Some records benefit from vocals or drums or guitar being too high or low in the mix, some don't. It all depends on preference. For me, this already has stellar production so I would personally say don't waste your money when this never needed a re-master in the first place.
Now the re-mastered version of Into the Nightside Eclipse...holy shit it did wonders for that album. It made Ihsahn's vocals come to life and the drums were tweaked and sound much more rich and full. The drumming and overall performances on that record are phenomenal for a bunch of 15-17 year olds.

I liked the production on the original song, but it didn't really fit in with the rest of the albums or any of my other music for that matter. For some reason it was louder than everything else I own. The new production gives it that crisp sound that the last few Meshuggah albums have had. It also makes the whole thing more 'punchy'. Just more compact and strong sounding.
I definitely agree with the In the Nightside Eclipse assessment.

thanks for reviewing Willie, always a pleasure to read.
I have the orig, but I'd consider picking this up as I'd be interested to hear the difference.
Now when is the Chaosphere re-master coming?

In that case Willie, since they already have my money for their entire discography, would it be a bother to just dl this? hahahahaha I'm in the mood to listen to this today!

Ha ha. It doesn't come out until the 30th, so you're just going to have to be patient ;)

I only want to hear this for the vinyl version. Already sounds good imo

The beginning of the song is supposed to be changed right, I just didn't dl a bad copy? (The scream comes in earlier, goes back to the fast picking, and then finishes out the scream.)

The re-issue sucks. This production blows compared to the original.

And what is up with the vox at the 3:40 part now? Focus taken away from the best instrumental part of the song. I can't take this.
