it really is. good pop songcraft is apparently lost on many these days. according to pitchfork that
vocal hook is an "eerily synthetic Beach Boys chant" (wtf) and the song itself is "promisingly
weird" (wtf 2)
and of course whatever promise it shows is "quickly diluted by stock verse/chorus structures"
because you know, you wouldn't want songwriting to include classic song structures that work. that
would be wrong. i mean imagine writing a catchy tune, and on purpose!
