It basically is. There's a section that feels like a timewarp back to their old sound (like from I). But the backing atmosphere is fresh. It's amazing.

but wait, who does drums/percussion? I watched them live and there were certainly drums, but no visible drummer and on wiki, there is no mention of drums.

If they are programmed, they still sound nice af imo.

I generally don't have an issue with programmed drums though unless they sound like Bic pens and have no dynamics.

Do y'all know if Panopticon's drums are programmed or if the dude does them live?

Yeah the drums are definitely programmed, but it's not really an issue. If anything, the fact that the programmed drums give a more consistent sound when doing blasts for 5-6min stretches helps the albums atmosphere

Is this out already? I thought it came out towards the end of the month. At any rate I can't wait to jam this

The programed drums fit this perfectly

And I usually dislike that approach

Panopticon doesn't have programmed drums, they have Austin Lunn ;)

And yeah, I'm with you 100% emester, programmed drums generally turn me off big time but here it's so appropriate. I'm 99% sure there are sections of drumming here that no human being could do. Kind of freaks me out.
