Three tracks into this, am I weird for already preferring this to MORTAL THRONE?
|
| |
not really. i mean mortal throne kills but this is good too. have you heard the alternate version of mortal throne?

I don't believe so. Whatever's on Spotify. I was just talking to Demon about this - I love GOLGOTHIA and CONQUEST, but MORTAL THRONE fell flat for me. Unimpressive, muddled production (and not in a pseudo-atmospheric "that's the point" sort of way, a la Portal), unmemorable riffs, whole thing struck me as kinda one-note, which isn't at all the case for the two albums bookending it.
What exactly is the alternate version? A re-production, or actual re-recordings?

the band had a spat with relapse back in the day and didn’t like the official mortal throne release, so they demanded they release a different version with different production and an altered track list. it’s on Spotify, it’s called upon the throne of apocalypse.

Holy fuck, I just listened to that one (before spinning this one) and literally did not make the connection at all. Gave it a 3.5 (compared to MORTAL THRONE's 2.5). Hah, guess I'm with the band on that one.

Personally I’m a big sucker for Mortal, it’s precisely the muddiness and more lysergic atmosphere which draws me in. The re-recording is good as Hyp said, it’s cleaner and the drums are heavier in the mix, so maybe you’ll dig it.
Edit: lol

I like the production on mortal but I can see how some would prefer the more open sound on upon the throne. it’s cool we have access to both versions.
