"Nepenthe" and "Haxprocess" are great: subtle, atmospheric and non-formulaic, the opening and closing instrumentals are also nice, but the rest of the album is essentially prog nostalgia fest made even worse by marrying it with the band's trademark sound.

I Feel The Dark, Folklore, and The Lines In Your Hand are fantastic as well. The bonus tracks are great too.

Heritage contains Famine, which is easily the worst Opeth song after By the Pain I See in Others.

Heritage is far from perfect but I certainly prefer it to this and probably Deliverance

They're good but almost every other Opeth song is better, until this album.

I'd say including this album. The only track I can't stand from this one is Goblin.

Goblin is good, the one I can't stand is Elysian Woes. From the first time I listened to it I was like, OMG, SHUT UP, SHUT UP, SHUT UUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUP

nah, it's not the vocals (I believe Mikael delivers perfectly on Eternal Rains and Faith in Others), it's the high-school level lyrics. He has a great sense of balance when writing and the mellower songs on Ghost Reveries or Damnation manage to anstain from cheesyness. But this godawful song....

I'll agree with Myth on this record's lyrics. Mikael is not at his strongest here.

The lyrics sure but he goes overboard on cheesy vocals too, and he doesn't always hit the notes he's going for. It was less pervasive on Heritage, which also had superior lyrics.
