Ws is a cool album
Heritage is just horrible. It's sooo fucking boring. Pale communion kick the ever living shit out of it, but it's just 70's prog with Mikael's really good vocals.

Heritage is not better than GR in any way. Still not a 1.3 though lol.

Meh. It's an opinion.
Ghost reveries is one of their best works, but I still think BWP and this are their best. MAYH is also a classic.

I do have a weird ass music taste, though.

Yeah that's pretty weird, but I respect yor opinion.

There's really no absolute when it comes to muscial interpretation. I love stuff like Baths and GYBE, but also love Opeth, Immolation, Entombed, etc.. it's just all preference.

Thanks for the thoughtful review - Deliverance is slammed so often for reasons that make no sense to me. Glad to see someone considering this in the context of music in general rather than as part of some sort of which-album-is-heaviest contest.

It's irritating that just because this is their heaviest and least technical it's automatically seen as vastly inferior to the rest of their material by fans, whereas if this was released by some unknown band most of them would be eating it up

I don't care about that, this just bores the hell out of me.

Fair enough, I could definitely see how some songs could drag for some people. It's interesting how some people consider this a companion album to Morningrise, since they basically have the same number of songs and track lengths, and each with one of their best ballads.
|

Who the hell considers this a companion to Morningrise!? That's just silly.

It's just with the way the albums are structured, I've seen a few comments on this site saying that this is a more focused and less meandering version of Morningrise

They have completely different styles from one another. Those people are dumb.

The dumbest aspect of it is thinking that this is better.

Gone are the doomy soundscapes and jazzy influences of previous releases.
If anything, this album had more of those than the previous releases.

I had actually meant that the more layered, complex sections like in Still Life and Blackwater Park are basically streamlined here. That phrase you quoted is implying something else tho, so I took it out and edited the review a bit.

Love this album. Brings the riffs. Wreath goes in hard and Master's Apprentices is one of thier best songs.
