Sweet review man! I gotta listen to this.

My parents aren't scared of metal at all actually. They know that not all metal is just constant screaming, growls and songs about killing and death all the time haha

"You should review some Neurosis."

I'll check them out. Similar to this?

Quite different, but it comes a bit close.

Yeah sort of. You can tell this band was heavily influenced by Neurosis.

This is actually a really excellent first review, that first paragraph especially, where you talk about people's perception of metal.

One criticism would be to not write in first person as much, or just do away with it altogether.

Yea dude talking in the first person is seen as kind of unprofessional if done the wrong way so I wouldn't do it. However, you handled it quite well here have a pos

You first paragraph is fantastic dude. It kinda sucks of metal is sometimes stereotyped as a disgusting combo of just heavy music without lots of substance and lyrics are horrible things sometimes. People who stereotype it like that probably haven't listened to Isis, Tool, Deftones, Agalloch or Opeth. Besides, sometimes harsher stuff is just a healthy way of getting anger out.

yeah talking to most people about metal is like telling a story where you end with, "um...yeah I guess you had to be there."

Yeah the close-mindedness sucks, but it's like that with pretty much everything outside the mainstream.

Yeah that's to be expected. Plus metal is relatively difficult to get into because of the aggression

Yea agreed. I'd guarantee if people tried out the song In Fiction alone I'm sure lots of people wouldn't expect such a balance between beauty and aggression

I'm not loving Panopticon as much yet. I think it's the drumming...Aaron Harris uses so many

techniques here that he didn't seem to have on Panopticon (double-kick runs, tom-tom riffs, flams and

rolls, etc). They give Absence a dynamic rhythmic foundation.

The drumming (well the whole rhythm section) of Panopticon is my favorite part of it. It might not be very technical, but it grooves so hard. I always find myself just rockin' to the rhythm. I also love the way it's produced; right in your face.

Yea it's an awesome raw sound. Would you guys say this is similar to Waver and their older stuff?

It's funny that I totally can't get into Firdous E Bareen, considering how praised it is and how much I like Isis overall. Great review!
