Hahaha now you're getting it. I more or less provoke thought.
death metal is hardly superior. that's just wrong mein.
If that statement had 2014 in it, I would agree with you so hard but dm will always be best at the end of the day. Black metal is having on of the best years I can ever remember though. So many releases, so little time. And the funny thing is the big names haven't stepped up at all, it's all the little guys and their debut's that have been blowing my mind.

If you put electric guitars and harsh snarls and screams, people will call it black metal. Put in the growlies and it becomes death metal.
yea, cant agree with this at all. these genres are defined by much more than just vocal styles (you know the differences so i wont even bother listing them). obviously both stemmed from thrash early on and there is a lot of stuff that straddles the line between the two, but their current forms are definitely way more distinct than just the vocal stylings. plus, theres bm that uses low growls, and vice versa.

"I have a dream Zar that one day mankind will be album to create full songs and albums which adhere to no genres without sucking."
Unlikely to happen unless our brains start evolving in a rapid fashion so that we will let go of certain base tendencies - such as categorizing things.
"People need to just focus on letting the music evolve naturally which I've rarely heard done successfully. "
What does this even mean? "evolve naturally" ? As a cultural creation there's certainly not much "natural" about music.
"And that's why I feel music is so stagnant nowadays"
Yeah, I disagree with that premise. I don't think "nowadays" music is any more stagnant than it was 10, 20 or 30 years ago.
"cuz you have so many artists trying fit in a genre or create music in a genre while forgetting that furtherance will come people focus on just creating music. I'm guilty of this too which shows how hard it is."
I don't think that most artists consciously do what you say they allegedly do, that is conceptualize an album around a specific genre. (except for things that are supposed to have mass appeal) And the attempt to just "do music without confines" can end in a horribly incoherent disaster.
I do agree that most issues arise either with production/mixing & mastering or songwriting.

The only black metal with lower ranged vocals I can think of is Saor.

TRoB also has relatively low range vocals.
I will have to say though that Nespithe or Bolt Thrower vocals on a BM album would probably sound cartoonish.

dso was gonna be my example. not "low growls" per se but definitely much lower than the standard high shrieks

I suppose traditionally speaking when people think of bm they think of high shrieks, tremolo picked pinch harmonics, blast beats and lofi production, but considering how experimental and broad the genre is becoming I think that is getting less and less important. building on what Wolfhorde said, it's our inherit desire to categorize that's blurring our conception of what bm should/could be.
...still beats dm.

Idk they're both equal to me, just very different in terms of context. BM is my kinda late fall/winter/early spring music. DM is more late spring/summer/early fall "get hyped/workout" music for the most part. (bar some exceptions like Ulcerate)
Also, I don't think the idea of categorization is necessarily a bad - it supplies structure. It depends on how far it's being taken. (as with most things)

Enjoying this album quite a lot.

@Wolf: I wasn't aiming to nuance generalizations as either good or bad. I understand and agree that they are necessary, to a certain degree as you said, in order to organize our minds. I do think though that it might cause us to cling on to old conceptions in a genre that is evolving and evolving fast (especially as of late). but that's based on my own observations.

this album just gets better and better. I thought the juxtaposition between the black metal parts and the country/bluegrass was a poor choice at first, but I'm easing into it more and more. this album has some truly beautiful layers.
