Picked up the vinyl of this, gonna have to grab the Lullaby/Petrichor 12" too though because I can't not have those.

Nice! Although I hate it when the vinyl version of a techno / electronic record skips on tracks that have come out as singles already. I'm missing half of Untrue's tracklist because of that. :[

Yeah but I'd rather they do something like that than compress the tracks to try to make them all fit on 2 12"s.

Untrue is a little different though because only Ghost Hardware had a previous release. I never bought the vinyl of that (have the CD though!) just because I think the way the album works as a whole is so important, and In McDonalds and Dog Shelter are not only tragically missing but also unavailable elsewhere on vinyl. They might be ambient tracks but they're also 2 of the best IMO. Always bothered me.

Yeah, I agree. I'm actually thinking of trading it in for the CD. On the other hand, I do like having the full-sized artwork on the cover.

Regarding the compression factor for putting more stuff on a side: I don't think that should necessarily be a problem if you have someone good at mastering. Alternatively, look at a lot of Ninja Tune releases: they manage to fit everything by sometimes slightly rearranging the tracklist.

Yeah truthfully I don't know enough about the process to know if it is or isn't possible - saw someone on discogs saying that there was clearly room (just physically looking at the grooves) for In McDonalds and Dog Shelter so IDK.

But I own a few full albums pressed to 2 12"s that were clearly compressed which I never get with singles. But you're probably more correct in saying it just comes down to the quality of the mastering (and pressing).

And to be fair, unless you have an somewhat upper-end system (even then), I don't believe you can actually hear many problems with roughly 90% of independent artists, if you use a lossless source (CD or vinyl).

To use an example, Arctic Monkeys' debut is supposed to be a terribly compressed record. I have it on CD, and I agree is pretty loud with no impressive dynamics; just the nature of the music. But using my imo really decent player and headphones, I can't say I hear actual distortion in the recording.
