if you like them at all, i'd say check out the demos art. i don't like Jen and big cars though.

i can't get over hate the bliss, man. if the chorus had been worked into the drugs or me one where this one comes over top the dom one, it would be the greatest achievement.

I posted in the Futures thread just now but don't know if the Go Big Casino stuff was ever discussed in here when we were talking about demos. If you haven't checked them out, defo get round to it.

I think only like half or 2/3rds of the album ever surfaced, which really sucks. There was a guy on the old JEW boards (username akatimo) who spent years hunting down the GBC stuff, and in fairness did a really good job, but eventually gave up. Did you notice that the bridge in Damage was lifted from the GBC song Ready?

I didn't notice that! but I always found it interesting how the GBC stuff (which is some of Jim's rawest, most personal work) ended up in the majority on CTL (which is arguably their most shallow, unemotional album). just that weird process of demo to album I guess

That's a good point. Agreed about CTL being shallow. Dizzy is a beautiful song, but I really wish they held onto it until Damage and brought it out then with the more raw, personal production style.
Here is the GBC site:

Under the Music heading at the top they have all the MP3s. Turns out there were 3 songs missing from the demo album. To be honest, my bet is that they are Hear You Me, Cautioners and My Sundown. I'm fairly certain they were originally written as GBC songs. Still, would be awesome to be able to have the full thing. Oh well. If you havent downloaded the live show from Phoenix in 99, that has some really beautiful stuff in it. Their "No Christmas" (which is a cover but cant remember who of) is one of my favourite Jim performances; it's stunning.

Dizzy, Somebody's Blues and to some extent Always Be are emotional songs but the rest is fairly plastic stuff, unfortunately. Dizzy would have been amazing on Invented imo
yeah this is where I got the 7 songs I have (Richmond, Two Serenades, To An Actress, Coliseum, Carry You, Power and Ready). I'll have a peek at that live show

I have a feeling they will remake Power one day. I think a lot of people liked that song and I don't know why but I think the band are fond of it. They might be holding onto it for future use.
Agreed about Always Be as well. That's probably the only song that I love on CTL. The production really works for it too, which is good, unlike Dizzy which sounds overproduced for what it is. I feel like they did as good a job as they were ever gonna do with Blues so I don't mind that it came out the way that it did. It's only really Dizzy that I feel was just ruined by how it was made and released. If they just held onto it and didn't overproduce it it could have been their next 23 imo.

I swap out Feeling Lucky and Here It Goes for Distraction and Be Sensible (B-sides) whenever I listen to CTL. Makes that album so much better.

I just found a download of So Proud of You which I never found before so that was cool. I'll have to give these a proper listen at some point because raw Jim = best Jim
even as it is I think Dizzy was close to being their next 23 tbh although that song is kinda in a league of its own

I actually love Feeling Lucky, haha. The contrast between the upbeat music and the lyrics is really entertaining and it's one of the few tracks with energy. agreed that those b-sides and Beautiful Is absolutely needed to make the album tho
