First listen now and im up to track 3. I'm really enjoying it! While it definitely lacks direction, i dont think such hate is warranted. Maybe i need to give it to settle in

How come that the old users think they have some wisdom over new users here on sputnik?

Because we don't shove our opinions down peoples throats in a manner that sounds like an out-of-control fanboy.

Now I'm not saying we all don't do this too and I think the majority of us have been here long enough where there's a certain comfort level that's in place and everyone kind of knows what to expect each other's rating to be (besides Noctus and I hahaha). In reality, you wouldn't bust into a new group of friends you "just" made and state that you're right and they're wrong. They would bully you to know end. This is the complex Amebix is facing right now.

Yet again, the Wizhammer prevails.

I began with my first couple of listens optimistic, identifying riffs and segments of tracks that I liked. However, when considering the album as a whole or even particular tracks as a whole, it's clear how much of a mess it is. It confuses me more with each listen.

A post before this from a user with more than 21k posts named "gwe3"

"this band has sucked for a long time tbh"

I can clearly see that old users do this WAY differently than I do....

And you can be sure that I do not feel bullied by anyone here

Back to topic:

After a few more spins my favourite track by far is "Dark Matter Gods", such a haunting dark atmosphere.

Hmm,

another good one from "Jacquedim" or whatever his nick is spelled.

"Amebix is just an idiot who is too fixated on "haters and elitists" he should develop some thicker skin methinks"

I can also clearly see that the old users here are way more sophisticated than me in voicing their opinions....lol.

I don't think the closing sentence sits entirely right...

"No, that seed was washed down the river along with the dynamics, wonderful melodies, heartfelt

emotion, airy clean vocals, unexpected songwriting twists, and truly innovative thinking that was

left behind during the creation of The Serpent & the Sphere."

Seems like a weird mix of repetition and exclusivity (was washed down the river/that was left

behind). You use one metaphor, then a different one to describe... a set of things you're trying to

include in the first? Maybe replacing "that was left behind" with "that was lacking from" (or

something) would help.

Hey, other than that it's a really fantastic review.

Also, on a less serious note - the people who are mocking the solo on Birth And Death Of The Pillars Of Creation, how many of you 4.5/5d Sunbather last year?

The kvlt out-of-tune solo in Vertigo has to be the most redundant, forced, out-of-place, superfluous addition I've ever heard. Totally killed the post-BM atmosphere and post-punk aesthetic.

Eurgh, apparently endless revision drains my ability to pose what I'm trying to say clearly (bodes

well for Finals in two weeks). I was just making a jokey comparison - there are far worse/less fitting

solos out there. Of all the censures to level against this LP...

Seems to me once people have decided they don;t like an album they pick it apart in all kinds of silly

ways, and nobody catches them out for it because, well, "terrible album is terrible".

Back on topic though, what do people make of Our Fortress Is Burning? It seems that a lot of the same criticisms could be applied (except maybe "lack of direction"). I just presumed people loved it as much as I do because of the ubiquitously high ratings for Ashes.
