The Atmosphere is in every of their previous works. That atmosphere that takes me to other places, different worlds, that gives me all those hard to describe feels.

The atmosphere is absent in this new record. I admit I may find it after several listens and some time ...but at this point, this record is simply not very interesting, and doesn't evoke that many emotions.

Atari - I 4.5d it after a day of listens, but 5d it after having slept on it and listened again. I guess I am a fanboy, but at least I'm an honest one! The album is up there with Ashes, I get the criticisms, I just don't think they ring true for me. The atmosphere really touches me, it's not woods and snow, but... well, larger things. Frozen seas, mountains and glaciers, cold green aurora in the sky.

I meant I didn't want to be a reactionary and regret rating too fast, but no Agalloch has ever touched me quite like this, except perhaps Our Fortress Is Burning.

"but no Agalloch has ever touched me quite like this"

Damn, every Agalloch but the closer of Ashes has touched me more than this has. Still a good record, just doesn't seem like it's really up to their standards.

rym is the best cataloging site on the internet and generally has the best userbase when it comes to relatively fair and balanced averages for albums (as long as you arent braindead) so idk exactly what youre complaining about

rym is so much better than this site, maybe not for general bullshit chatting (idk i dont use the forums there much) but yeah as a catalog it's unbeatable, its charts are some of my favourite things on the internet for discovering music

i'm sure its cool when you get used to it or whatever but i agree with gwyn. its just so uninviting. i like how on here you can chat with people and you start to see them in different threads or whatever and you get a feel for their taste and how that matches up with yours. at rym i just see a number. the charts are the only thing thats really interesting but i rarely look at those. theres plenty of stuff to discover on sputnik that i'll never have time to listen to all of it. i don't need rym's super database or whatever
