just thought the thread needed one differing opinion. but seriously everything about this sounds like "hey this synth-laden cheesy metal with some bouncy riffs with a vocalist the male crowd will go all over for seems to work, maybe we can make some decent money out of it"

I honestly agree with that (the 'uninspired' part at least) with the exception of this album. This is really the only album of their that I truly love, the rest is pretty mediocre imo.

Yeah sorry Art that is a really dumb statement, you hate Power/Symphonic Metal to begin with so this will do nothing for you. Epica's demographic has very little to do with exploiting Simona's looks, although other bad Power/Symphonic Metal bands have done this.

Not as much as you would think, and I say it's a dumb statement since it's just making such a sweeping popshot about a fanbase essentially rendering them as people with zero artistic critical thinking and focus just on the pretty face. Tad too cynical in my opinion, especially since Mark has been doing this type of music before it had any serious economical pull.

I heavily disagree but eh, they can write albums cohesively and are very good at using symphonics to make it not a backdrop for poor songwriting (at least in the later stages of their career).

symphonics in metal is one of my most heavily despised things in music so i have an obvious bias there. doesn't change the image i have about this band though
