Geddy's voice is grating and the guitar effect that Alex uses all of the time doesn't resonate with me at all idk

frank zappa doesn't make me nowhere as happy as rush do. 1981-1987 albums got the feels and synths

Hmm, I love the 80s feel in rush. Zappa is quality but not in that poppy way

This is very underappreciated; There's brilliant stuff on here. I mostly listen to the first part. Society Pages till Conehead is utter brilliance! In the end there's some tiresome instrumentals that go on a bit to long.

Quite a hard album to get into, but if you start with the sequence of the above mentioned tracks you'll be hooked, I guarantee!

I had too many Zappa 5s, and the first half is only like a 4/5, the second half being a hard 5/5

Comparing Rush to Zappa is very difficult imo. Both are very interesting artists that produce high quality music over a number of decades. That's where the similarity stops, but that's also what makes both acts more profound in the music scene in general than most give them credit for. That's because both acts are a very specific taste, some people love it to death, but a lot also hate it. I think I prefer Zappa in the end.

as far as rush vs zappa i like more rush music cause i come from an arena rock/heavy metal background but theres really no comparison, rush are highly derivative of led zeppelin/yes/the police until settling into some "modern rock" sound they had from around 93 to the end of their career. that being said the anthems that make rush so unlikable for a lot of prog dudes is exactly what i like about them, no forced bizarreness

used to find Geddy's voice annoying, but now i embrace it with open ears. This album is fantastic and I love the musicians from this era. I agree this is when the satire starts getting a little eh. Probably my last favorite Studio LP of his, though Jazz From Hell and Civilization are still winners.
