A bit too much use of "manne" and "nigga" for my taste

my only complaint with Bandana is that Freddie needed to let the beats breathe a little more. sometimes the dude just raps too much. will likely settle as a solid 4, but definitely doesnt touch the highs they set on this.

@johnnyblaze that was exactly my same complaint with bandana. it came across as freddie trying too hard on some tracks.

This one feels cohesive, while Bandana has Madlib sprinkling different beats and lets Freddie do his thing.. Cataracts on smooth shit, Situations on some Bone Thugs shit, Half Manne Half Cocaine on some of the hardest trap shit made.. sounds bout right.

Okay, so let's get ONE thing clear.

Piñata is the better album, yes. I think the cohesion of Coke Piñata is what holds the project together as a whole. The vibe of the album is much grittier and older. The album retains a certain age to it as the years go by. It never gets old because it already took so much from decades past. The sampling, while simple, is very dynamic. The album feels less scattered in a sense.

Bandana, while amazing, has more of a scattered and not-so-uniform feel to it. It feels like Madlib is trying out a lot of new stuff and trying to move away from his comfort zone at times. This is a great thing but it comes at a bit of a price. The album's progression and flow feels a little uneven. Still, I think Bandana did what it had to do..be great while not sticking to the same tricks of Piñata.

a little too bad that they only gave Mike the chorus and no verse. best feature is probably Anderson Paak's, that hook is wild. and Mos Def/Thought are great as expected.

Bandana is way less uneven though, this album near-totally loses it in the last third. mad filler

Bandana growing hard. some real sleeper standouts - Practice and Fake Names. the sequencing is perfect and i agree there's less filler than this.

less filler maybe but Pinata got higher highs.. Practice and Fake Names are both great joints tho.

Am I the only one who thinks Paak makes "Giannis" sound like something off an Empire soundtrack? I liked Malibu and reallly liked his collab album with knxledge but since then I feel like he just waters down everything he's on.
