I'm really not sure how I feel about this. This group are clearly a manufactured product of a corporate entity, but the music's so damned catchy.

@ngk44 - Clearly the corporation knows what it's doing because they picked some excellent musicians. Suzuka is what really sells it though.

There's no question that they know what they're doing. The Japanese music industry is a multi-billion dollar enterprise; someone was bound to take metal and try to make it "kawaii" eventually. The music's honestly much better than I would have expected.

Apparently both the musicians and singers mime live, though.

I'm doubtful of that last claim, part of being a J-Pop idol is you're supposed to have the appearance, but also the ability to perform live, hence the rigorous training from a young age. And they hire established musicians to perform the music so I would hope they do actually play live.

I'll debunk this rumor for you. They mimed and used playback from their inception to around late 2012-early 2013. Early 2013-Summer Sonic Su-Metal (main singer) dropped the miming but playback still existed and the two other singers still mine. Summer Sonic until now Su-Metal still has no miming and the band now actual plays live. The other 2 singers I think dropped miming as well but I'm unsure.

In a rare instance of a band un-selling out, they've actually gotten better and more credible as they've gone along.

Hasn't it always been?

"Megitsune" is actually a surprisingly great song. I may get a chance to see them at Sonisphere Festival UK this year. Guess I'll see for myself how solid they are live.
