"There's plenty of shitty old school bands, so saying old school doesn't make anything better either."

this argument never held any water because nobody knows the "plenty of shitty old [whatever]" unless they're notoriously and irredeemably bad

whereas the shitty new bands can find themselves in the spotlight quite frequently and are frequently discussed despite the fact that they're bad

well that's because today it's much easier for shitty bands to get in the spotlight thanks to the Internet and what not. back in the day, you had to be REALLY fucking good just to keep the band alive. of course there were shitty bands back then too.

Newer or modern, doesn't matter to me nor do I have a preference. I just picked a word that would verbally illustrate to others my favorite band in the genre that couldn't be considered classic (i.e Death, Gorguts)

it is somewhat weird to call a band that plays like pure osdm a modern band just because they are a new band

but.........this isnt "pure osdm" at all

im not disputing that im just saying there's a reason why that association exists, because the vast majority of the bands whose names *have* survived are fucking good

besides it's a style thing as well not strictly a quality one, like if someone says "hey this band is part of the new wave of old school death metal" then i might expect it to sound like autopsy or incantation or entombed, not vital remains or worse yet have dxc or slam influences in it

@clim I know, should've added "for example" there. I said this is a modern style dm.

yes snox i'm well aware you're still stuck in that teenage edgelord phase where you have to shout from the rooftops how much you hate the established classics, but the vast majority of metalheads who dwell in the real world and not fishing for attention and validation on the internet agree that these bands are at the very least good

@clim no worries, wish my English was better so I could express my thoughts more precisely, but I'm too lazy to work on it haha

"So whenever someone recommends you a modern band, you instantly assume it's something you'll hate just because it's modern?

That's dumb."

a band being modern and a band having a modern style are two very distinct things, but if you don't believe me you can feel free to check how many 2013 and 2014 metal releases i've 4'd or above

"established classics" doesn't mean everyone has to love them.

when everyone except a couple of kids like you think they're good, they're probably good, and it goes to prove my point that only the good bands from that era survived (to greater or lesser popularity)

in other words, a band like gorement is a lot less controversial than a band like periphery in terms of how many people love it and how many people hate it.

if this isn't simple enough for you to understand, then i can't do any better

"modern styles are diverse and instantly assuming it's a modern style you dislike as opposed to one you do like doesn't make it any better.

i mean "old school" could just as easily mean glam as it could anything else if you think that stupidly."

please teach me more about music i've been listening to since before you were born

actually don't, i have better uses for my time

Chill guys, from what i've seen both of you has a good taste, what the fuck you are fighting for? Snox has a great amount of obscure metal in his lists that most likely you will never hear if you are not in to sput.

Not really, i m just telling you dont need a lot of time to find something that is buried really deep, and thanks to people like him you can find those easily. I really appreciate it or any other user who puts interesting lists. Blogs on other hand are painful to search and seek for.
