Nice. I really like these versions. Especially "Easy." Soo much better than the original, which was still good, but I felt was missing something.

the alternative cuts are dope but the Lorde thing is just a bit of a gimmick imo- no beating the original.

Idk, she's a big fan of Son Lux. I think it's pretty cool they collaborated, and imo her voice works perfectly on "Easy."

ok there's something, like, really impenetrable about this album. can't place my finger on what it is, but to me it feels like a more musically tame Age of Adz... just as experimental, but with only half the charisma. i rly like other things by this guy, but something feels incredibly off here

Self-confessed Son Lux noob, should I start at the start?

@Omaha: Interesting you say that. I felt similar at first. Like that he should have let loose a lot more with the energy and experimentation in an Age of Adz sort of mode, but I think the tameness works well when he uses it. It's definitely a difficult album to conceptualize.

son lux is and always will be better at what they do than sufjan imo. lux has artistic restraint that sufjan needs to pick up on. sufjan has never done anything thats fully captivated me and all of son lux's work is incredible. the most amazing part is that the dude is a composer first and son lux second. it really shows, he had archived literally thousands of samples during his time before son lux while doing his composition thing and the structures and harmonies in his tunes really do sound like an orchestrated electronic project instead of just sounding like a 'producer'.

definitely. This is my least favourite Son Lux LP (and i still have it 4.5'd). At War With Walls and Mazes, his first album, is one of my favourite albums ever.

i just posted this in the alternate worlds thread but i think this is pretty cool info that those of you who have no past experience with Son Lux should probably know since its pretty important to having a full understanding/appreciation of his music

this guy is someone with whom you need to start at the beginning with, everything that follows stems from the debut At War With Walls and Mazes. Tonnes of little easter eggs that most people miss. For instance, there is a thematic piano melody on ATWWAM that reoccurs in various forms throughout all his LPS that links them together as well as snippets of reoccurring lyrics. Also...

album 1: At War With Walls and Mazes

album 2: We Are Rising

We Are Rising=WAR

at WAR with Walls and Mazes

and continuing on, the first song on WAR Flickers sets up another reoccurring theme/melody about LANTERNS...

album 3: Lanterns

the more familiar you are with his progression the more little easter eggs you'll find and the more you shit yourself everytime u listen to his stuff

pretty fucking cool.
