I can see why people could either hate this with a passion or love it completely. Some of the lines are really cringe-worthy, but I think it's one of those cases where it just wouldn't be the same without it's occasional awkward flatness. It's an album about coping with death and mortality, but it's also about being flawed and imperfect. I think at the heart of the album is this struggle to communicate something that's very difficult to put words to, and those moments where he falls flat in communicating this seem almost deliberate, like a sort of acknowledgment that sometimes we fall short of saying what we're trying to say [2].
This is exactly why I love Daisy.

I feel like it's absolutely deliberate which is why it's annoying that is so exaggerated. I feel like he'a trying so hard to be awkward as hell

This is actually rather honed for Mark's current style of writing. If you really want to hear him
ramble to the point of being awkward as hell you should listen to his last record. At least here he
keeps it on point to being miserable as shit.

Damn Jonny, good write up.

i've ran through this album a few times in different mindsets and there were times when i felt like i was listening to abe simpson ruminate about mortality and others where i found it much more considered and not at all arduous to listen to
like i initially thought. really great album but tentative to say i love it.
