"So I have yet to check this guy out. Love his acting/comedy. I read somewhere that he is apparently better than Lupe fiasco and Kendrick Lamar....is that true?"

he shouldn't even be near the same discussion

Frustrates me knowing that Yeezus has gotten better ratings (other than sputnik) than this album.

to be fair there are aspects of Yeezus that this record pulls from quite strongly

^no doubt there, especially production wise, but it's hard to explain, i feel there's more emotion in this compared to Yeezus and there's something to it that makes memorable.

i agree i honestly cannot fathom how well yeezus and also death grips have been received outside of sputnik (although i believe both of those albums are superior to this one)

the pitchfork/fantano trains have such a ridiculous effect on the plebs

Pitchfork can be iffy but i can get behind Fantano. while he's a bit of a bore (so much description, so clinical-- I don't always want to hear his diagnoses on albums,) his opinions are always well-thought out and he exposes a lot of people to interesting music. his review of this was also well-done

yeah i don't mind listening to a fantano review every once in a while, but i just mean that when he goes loco over an album (and he ADORED the money store), people really took that to mean that TMS was objectively one of the best albums of the year; he just has a lot of clout that I don't really believe is always justified.

I do think he has better taste than pitchfork though, I just don't think either of those (or anyone really except for me) should be looked at to objectively rank music.

And I know that they don't ("y'all know this is just my opinion right?", etc) perpetuate that idea,

but the fanboys do, and that's really the problem I have with it all.

get what youre saying for sure, but i do think you may be placing a bit too much of the blame on Fantano. I def agree that nobody should really take anything more from him than "oh, well, Anthony liked this a lot," but aren't people bound2 (hehe) interpret any kind of music journalism as fact? at least Fantano goes out of his way to say it's just his opinion-- which seems trite to many, but I think it helps his case to show that he's just a dude that likes some shit, dislikes other shit. there will always be curious bandwagons created for strange purposes, but i think that's just the nature of these things

also, worth considering that we're able to see every agreement/disagreement w/ fantano thru Youtube comments. i think if it were as easy / fruitful to leave such comments on other websites, we would see a lot more bandwagoning akin to what's happening with Fantano

i feel that - i have always wondered what might happen if p4k allowed comments the same way we (and yt) do.

i don't mean to bash fantano, i do like him a fair bit. for the record i don't think that anything is his fault per se, i can't be mad at him for liking what he likes (unless it's something just egregiously bad in which case i'd clown him endlessly); i think i'm just disappointed that there are more sheep than shepherds in his fanbase (and i'd really be interested to see what happened if he or p4k had negatively reviewed yeezus/gvtpl8z), but that's not a slight against him by any means.

This is way, way, way better then Yeezus cause that album was shit. While this album does take some ideas from Yeezus it uses those ideas much better. And if your really gonna judge this album you have to read the screenplay that was released with it. This album is gold, and Gambino should be hailed for his dedication to character on the album, the screen play, and over the past year in interviews.

I really don't understand why I need to read a screenplay for an album. Especially one that is 70+ pages, wtf. Sounds like a copout because its just not cohesive.

I've listened to it about 5 times now. And the story that I hear from listening to it is completely boring. Its like I should be feeling bad for this character that is going through the same problems many people go through, except he just can't cope with them.

Its all so pretentious, which is exactly what Camp was as well. Only good thing about this compared to Camp lyrically is that this isn't as overly reliable on hash tag rap.
