It's one of those films that makes confusion appealing and alluring and presents a world that is both familiar (suburbs, high school) but intriguingly different (the time travel stuff, Frank) and makes us relate to Donnie (his romance with Gretchen, the classic bored teen stylising) as much as it distances us (mental illness, weird time-stuff), so that when he goes to bed with a smile at the end and dies, the audience is left feeling kinda sad (if they gave a damn about the film in the first place) but still hooked on the mystery - what the hell happened? In the end, I guess it's appealing because it's different and mysterious...

Out of curiousity, what do you think of Mulholland Drive?
