the songs don't sound incredibly varied to me on first listen ie, they feel a bit more formulaic than I'm used to BUT they combat that by all of them being of an extremely high quality. they got some CRAZY rhythms and riffs which is to be expected and it never gets old. Rody sounds phenomenal for the most part. like, i expected to have to lower my bar for him but there are definitely some of his best vocal performances ever on here. i also feel like there are more screams here than there have been since Fortress. I think this is overall a more developed Pacific Myth that feels like a far more worthy follow up to Volition. regardless of where it ends up ranking among the rest of their discog, this is definitely of the same quality that we know and love Protest The Hero for and I couldn't be happier. best album I've heard in what feels like a long, long time

on first listen, All Hands, The Fireside, Migrant Mother, and Gardenias were my favorites. all of them have some part that is going to blow your mind. if anything i think this is their 2nd most consistent album behind Volition

Gardenias is a fucking monster.

weird comparison but Reverie kinda sounds like something I'd hear A7X do. it doesn't sound like them very much at all, just like something I could see them writing which i say to drill in the fact that haters of that band shouldn't be worried after reading this lol

Palimpsest might be the first album from that I like as much as Fortress, if not more. Volition is quite good but it seems aimless at points. Plus, I always thought Underbite was easily the cheesiest song in their entire discog.

Eh, could see how someone could find the first few lines of Underbite kinda lame but the rest fucking rules, and the message is timeless. When rody says "it's bullllllSHIT" it gives me chills every time

A few awesome songs like Plato's Tripartite and Mist but feels a bit aimless and tends to blend together between tracks.

Huh, I would argue Mist is the most off-theme song here and diminishes the spirit of the album a little bit, though I do love it as an individual track. The songwriting/musicianship here is jaw-dropping and every song is 150% blare-worthy, so I struggle to understand the consistancy issues claim

I found the songs that had more repetitive riffs or melodies to be the most enjoyable, perhaps because they felt more focused, as those were. (Was Mist not like that? I might be thinking of a different track).

The second song, Drumhead Trial, was the most grating and almost made me stop listening, if that gives you an idea of the song style I'm not partial to.

Mist has the most basic structure of any song here, or at least the least sporadic progressions. I was speaking mostly on the subject matter being about just rlly loving newfoundland amidst a bunch of politically and socially angry songs lol. Also Drumhead Trial grating?!?! Bruhh it's like 3 songs put together and they're all god tier. The leads in that song are NUTS

"it's like 3 songs put together"

I feel like that can be done correctly but how it was executed by PtH was not my cup of tea. I'm glad you enjoyed it, to each their own I suppose

I enjoy the lack of immediately noticeable structure, it forces you to step back, digest, and take time to appreciate it. This is an album that you get what you give.. I've always loved PtH's unique presentation of hardcore and metal- all the talent to conform to being a Converge or a TDeP, or a wank-heavy band like Periphery, but instead they stay planted firmly between the 2 genres and in a league of their own.
