Scurrilous grew from a 2.5 to a 4 for me so I'm not shocked this is someone's favorite. I just don't understand. Cliint will have to explain it to me.
Speak slowly.

Watchitexplode, i listen to protest primarily for the guitar/drum interplay. Scurrilous was incredible in this regard, but it felt like everything else was toned down. This album has mind bending guitar passages in almost every song while at the same time incorporating all the PTHness from past albums. The lyrical content, the harsh vocals, crunchy heavy releases, Rodys emotion in his runs, progression in the songs, sing along choruses.
Everything that past albums had exclusively were included and balanced perfectly here. Well I say perfectly, I could do without ' I'm Proud of every pitbull' but aside from the few missteps, it's everything I want when I listen to a 'progressive', heavy album with clean vocals.

no I get that...this is yet another technically amazing PTH record. It just rings a bit hollow at times for me. Thanks.

Hearing these guys grow technically is really something. I can barely play a thing off this lol

yeah as great as fortress was I could learn most of those songs in a few days, I only get caught up on a lot of the tapping. Scurrilous and this? the rhythm alone is a mind fuck half the time.
|
| |
Agreed, Fortress made my head explode when I first heard it but when I checked the tabs it wasn't anything too complex minus a couple tapping parts like you mentioned. If you strip away the lead guitar, the rhythm guitars are basic power chords.
But with Scur and this they really stepped it up. Plus the tempos are higher which is the ultimate killer.

That reminds me of this last time I saw them live, the rhythm guitarist actually said between songs "I hate this next one, it's exhausting for me" and the entire time he looked like he was holding his breath. It was something off scurrilous, just goes to show that even these guys have trouble keePing up with what they write,

Damn I wonder what song it was lol, very interesting. Maybe Hair Trigger? Both lead and rhythm are pretty busy on that track.

I used to listen to this album on a weekly basis. Haven't listened to a single song off here in over a year.

The concert also has '68 playing with that dude from The Chariot. Interested to see how they perform.
