Hell no.
Hell yes. The lyrics are not well constructed. And also how it sends begginers in th wrong direction. It's too heavy. It's a good song ad I did say "a bit". But theres far more DT songs that make it kiss the dirt. This Message Edited On 11.17.06This Message Edited On 11.17.06

This is a great album, I really enjoy listening to every song. I love The Glass Prison, it is a great song, very entertaining one. The orchesta greatly fits in in the second CD.

I just realized that your highlights for the Glass Prison don't include the sweep picking a little bit after the intro breakdown. The first time I heard that I went numb.

I could care less about lyrics. It's the best song DT made IMO out of the 4 albums i've heard by them.

And there is anything wrong with some good fucking balls to the wall metal? ;) If anything, it's the charm of DT that they combine progressive influences with more heavy metal influences. And the band has stated (or was it Mike Portnoy who spoke for the band??) that this was the first song on which they went full out heavy and concentrated on being heavy for the whole song.

Yeah, I had that too... I didn't listen to for it like a whole time, favouring other albums over this one... now it's one of my favourites by them.

This album gorws on me with ever listen, and i'd say this is my second favorite DT album out of the six i own now actually (yet to get FII and WDADU, not counting ACOS)

I think i enjoy the first disc a little more, GLass Prison kicks ass, Greart Debate s almost as awesome, and Blind FAith is also killer. I love the buildup in misunderstood as well, and disappear is pretty cool as well.

On the second disc, i ltaley havent been able tyo get enough of "Solitary Shell," i just love that chorus, it gives me goosebumps every time. The test that stumped them all is almost as good as well, but lacks the atmosphere that solitary hell had.

However, other than thse two sections, the second is a bit lacking, though still awesomely epic (thogh losing time wan't a great closer says me.)

Only album that beats this is it's predecessor, SFAM.

Im always glad to see this grow on people. I never liked it after I first got it, but this was the album that moved me into the direction of enjoying the long, epic songs that very few bands tend to churn out without sounding overdone. Before every race I compete in, almost ever, I put on the first solo of the Glass Prison on my ipod. It jolts my adrenaline like no other.

Good review, a bit lengthy, but still good.

I am a bid saddened that you didn't bother to consider the ethical / social / medical / political etc. complications the "The Great Debate" adress, instead you mention how the band is getting hasseled for "stealing" a guitar riff

the band made easily the most mind-numbingly complex music they or any other band had ever put to tape
Here is were I stopped reading. A review with a sentence like that just can't be good...
deserves its place as a DT classic
agreed whole heartedly. takes a place in between stream of consciousness and a change of seasons as my favorite DT songs ever.

actually, believe it or not, those are alternated picked arpeggios and not sweeped. that absolutely blew my mind so I thought I'd share.

That's funny, other then the opening track of disc 2 which I hate, I always thought Disc 2 was much better then Disc 1.

Good review too.

The Glass Prison and Blind Faith are two of the band's better songs.
