Minus check funeral, it rules hard. You probably won't dig much of the others if you don't like it either so

I know that. Does the thesaurus not help you in your search for the meaning of the word?

Have a dictionary.

Again my position does have merit. I keep reading how many users found and find Arcade Fire music boring. I guess I just listen to music with a different ear than most people. I remember how people yawned when Shakespeare was read in English class. I thought the words were verbal intercourse.

is this better than suburbs though?

I don't find Shakespeare utterly inspiring although I see myself as someone who loves to read. I can definetly see people not digging his stuff and not lacking anything called "higher knowledge base" or "book knowledge".

It's something called an opinion

i like this review far less after having heard and thoroughly enjoyed this album. points like these:

Here's the gist of just about any song on Reflektor: a steady drum beat steers a groovy bassline and hook-laden guitars as James Murphy inserts 80's disco shimmers and a Haitain instrumentalist plays something ethnomusical and Win Bulter yelps about the night time/reflektors/death/fire/knowing/whatever. Skip to any point in the Youtube stream and you'll catch this template in action.

are so far off the mark

"I know the time is coming, all words will lose their meaning".... "Un, deux, trois the Mirror Noir". And so it is.

"Sputnik blowhards are not that literate. The biblical, historical, and escatological references found in the Arcade Fire discography are over the heads of most I guess. I now see why people are bored. I suppose the higher your knowledge base is the more you might enjoy this. If you do not have a lot of "book learning" this band, and record are probably not for you."

Hey smart guy, throwing in biblical, historical, and escatological references doesn't make for a good album on it's own. Why would it?

How about they write a a good song first. Only then will the lyrics matter. You know, a good SONG. Music and such.

It doesn't matter how many references are included or how they connect with the concept, if they're shit lyrics, they're shit lyrics. Tbh the references shouldn't even detract from the power of the lyrics if the lyrics are that powerful they should only add to them, which doesn't seem to be the case here.

Also fantastic review.

If you don't understand the over-arching theme, or what may seem a throw away lyric or song, then I understand not liking this missive or any Arcade Fire album. There is a method to their "mush".

what if you don't like it because the references are a little heavy-handed and don't really add anything interesting or worth exploring to the music that I find prty dull and bloated already

basically it'd be like me going around yelling at people's faces like a maniac "HEY DER I RED DAT BOOK WITH DAT RUSSIAN AUTHUR!!!"
doesn't matter that I'm referencing Tolstoy, I still sound like an idiot and have nothing of value or anything interesting to add

Well, yeah if you do not give people a choice to hear or not hear your ravings! This is not mandatory listening, but if you choose to listen an open mind might serve you well.

ok so then this is like me hearing some guy yelling at people's faces like a maniac "HEY DER I RED DAT BOOK WITH DAT RUSSIAN AUTHUR!!!"
I'm keeping an open mind and I'm thinking to myself "hey I know that he's referencing Tolstoy!" but it doesn't change the fact that the guy still sounds like an idiot and has nothing of value or anything interesting to add

all I'm saying is that your justification for people not liking this is sooooooo off base and unfair
