Giving this a listen now, it's nice to have Trent back behind the mic again.

I thought The Slip was quite average, not sure about this yet.

I honestly can't stand this, it's so boring, repetitive and bland. Well, amazing review though, pos'd.

All time low is the only song that's stood out, but I'm only half way through.

"In Two" was a first listen favorite, but I don't really feel the need to come back to this or see much long term listening appeal. Say what you will about Trent moving on and being a different person, but lack of anger robs him of emotional impact more than other artists.

Album is solid, but needs more angst and a more notorious guitar work.

Was anticipating that I might not like this, I was wrong.

I was looking forward to this, but unfortunately I can't get into many of these songs. Aside from obvious highlights such as "All Time Low," the songwriting just isn't here for me. I appreciate the vibe of the album, though; it feels...I'm not sure how to explain it, exactly, but it's cool.

Almost every song except Came Back Haunted and Everything sounds like it could come off The Fragile, Reznor's voice just isn't as angry as before. Production and atmosphere wise this is one of NIN best

"Anybody else loving Various Methods of Escape?"

Yeah, my favorite song from the album for sure.

I really don't see the point of comparing this to past albums; none of NIN's albums are the same, so I don't see why people expect otherwise.

"mhm loving those hooks"

damn, there are some great hooks on this album

Because those past albums made him famous, and were many people's introduction to the group so there's a lot of feeling and emotion there. Charting where a bands been to where they are now is useful, and comparing albums is included in that unless their sound is changed completely (as in major genre change).

of course, I didn't mean disregard previous albums totally. I meant that expecting Trent to come out with Broken part 2, or TDS part 2 for that matter, is just naïve. He will always be doing something different with the sound. A lot of the album does relate back to previous albums, but it's a new direction as always. You can always relate back to previous albums based on quality, but its best to judge the album based on its merits alone, as it is with all NIN albums
