"I actually enjoy the subdued instrumentation on this record." To me this suggests that they have the ability to improve on their instrumentation, and I'd say this is incorrect. Unfortunately, what you are hearing is the extent of their instrumental talents.

My problem with this band is that if you told the guitarist before a show that they could only use C, Am, F, and G and a capo, their setlist would be unaffected.

I guess. I'm not sure they could deliver on it though. There's something comforting about how consistently well they can rewrite the anthemic songs. "Miscommunication" and "No One's Gonna Need You More" were two of my favorite songs on War Paint and they were higher tempo.

it's ok but it's like... even less diverse than War Paint which was already less diverse than RFTS, in terms of tone and key. at least their new drummer rules

I think both War Paint and Golden Record are definitely more diverse than RFTS.

What's going on with AJ's voice on this album? I hope he's purposely making it sound that gritty and not about to completely lose it altogether.

Don't get me wrong, I like it. I just hope singing like that won't be blowing out his vocal chords in the next year.

his voice is fine, but he does nothing to take care of it, so i can see it giving out by his 30s
