Kinsella is an extremely talented guy, sad that he isn't known better than he actually is.

Probably my favourite Owen album although L'ami du Peuple is also amazing not to mention some of his other stuff.

More people should listen to L'Ami. It took me ages to realise it but it's actually one of the best records he's ever been involved with (like 4.2+) and some of the individual tracks are top tier essential Kinsella. It's not quite as dreamy as At Home--the song structures are clearer and don't drift around as much--but if you enjoy the fundamental Owen sound then the new one is a must hear.

eh I dunno
most of it is too mediocre for me to consider it [one of] his best; Blues to Black is an obvious, awesome highlight, but there's nothing really carrying that record... this has 3 or 4 individual songs that are far better and less lowlights

Blues to Black is an obvious, awesome highlight, but there's nothing really carrying that record

Thought the exact same thing for a while, but I found that as I kept coming back to the record all of the songs that I didn't give much thought to on early listens like "Love is Not Enough", "Coffee Companions", "Who Cares?" and especially the last two tracks really got fleshed out and "Blues to Black" sort of faded back a bit. A lot of L'Ami sounds like lame forgettable tame Kinsella when you first go into it but it's actually an insanely rich and consistent record.

I also watch way too many Owen videos on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9cm-OFcP8fg
