Dream Theater is fucking terrible man im sorry. Mike Portnoy is the only member that i can manage to find any enjoyment from and I really think that’s because of his short stint in A7X. He put together a hell of a performance when the band’s future was very uncertain and I’ll always appreciate him for that.
They’re wankfest bullshit that oozes pretentious energy, and im basing that solely on the one asshole I know in real life that made fun of me for liking Avenged Sevenfold after saying that I don’t care for DT. I didn’t even talk shit on them like I do here. Literally just said that they’re not for me and this prick just roasted me and my taste in music.

Not even 90s Dream Theater? They weren't nearly as wanky back then, and incorporated a lot more atmosphere (courtesy of Kevin Moore, for the most part)

never liked their vocalist but yeah from what I’ve heard they were a lot more tolerable then. I think Pull Me Under was the first song I heard from them thanks to guitar hero.
But god as the years went on anything I heard from them was just so insufferable. The synths on some tracks I’ve heard are just downright garish, and the fact that The Astonishing’s runtime is longer than most feature length films should be considered a crime against humanity.
To be clear I haven’t listened to a single song off that record and would rather it stay that way.

I might jam the DT debut later this month. But yeah, over the years I've been more of a Ryche guy.
I think it has to do with that rock n' roll edge QR has had. They just had fun kicking ass in their prime. DT's more polished style (as far as I've heard) appeals less to me.

This has been growing on me.
I just enjoy it's chill atmosphere and how "different" it is.

Liquid Sky might be my fave on here.
