A lot of those older records could handle 10 or 15 mins shaved off, but people had better attention spans back then, for sure. But Triple 6 era 3 6 is peak. It’s like the hip hop equivalent to black metal lol

feel like most records of the era are better suited for driving around a city/few tracks per stop, rather than listening front to back. if i'm listening to mystic stylez it's usually on the road or i'm playing like re4 for the 80th time.

unrelated but og mystic > more mystic

that makes sense. conscious focused listening doesn't seem to be what it's meant for. and it's weird coming from someone (me) that likes longer stuff usually. i guess maybe it's on this alb in particular, it feels like i'm not hearing much variance in the beats? or maybe it's the production? i dunno. i guess i'm more of a nas/tribe called quest kinda fan

The production job here is literally one of the best in rap history.

Couldn't have said it better. They definitely had that evil and Lo-Fi sound which served to their benefit.

"The production job here is literally one of the best in rap history." I mean, for its endgoal i certainly wouldn't argue with that, i think i just like the more chilled out beats of other styles of hip hop more. some ol' snoop dogg, tribe, outkast type stuff.

gotta revisit nujabes but i feel like that's a good place to go. Pac's up there too, tho i feel like mentioning him first is such a normie thing for me to do

Pac is the goat, but you also dont know a ton of hip hop so mentioning him is normal regardless. nujabes is super classic and brings the sexy jazzy chill vibes to the extreme so definitely check him.
